Kasbah trails towards the Sahara Desert with sand dunes, oasis, nomads, camel trekking, fossils; the Imperial cities, Berber villages and High Atlas Mountains; Atlantic Coastal beaches, Arabian nights in ryads and Berber nights in nomad tents.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Malaga - Algeciras - Tangier - Fez

MALAGA, SPAIN – FEZ, MOROCCO

Ferry across the Straits of Gibraltar to Tangier, Morocco, Northern Africa. After customs, your Berber driver/guide meets you to travel to Fez, the most medieval of the Imperial Cities of Morocco. You stay in a very special Ryad for a unique escape into another bygone world. There is a special folklore show with dinner where you meet your official guide for the next day’s tour of Fez.

Day 2: Visit of Fez

FEZ

The most Imperial City of them all! History, Architecture, Craftsmen… Visit the largest souk in Morocco and in Africa. Our official local guide will help you visit all the palaces and special places here. Fes was the spiritual and cultural center of Morocco and has multiple facets to explore. First quality handicraft shops, oldest University in the world, Koran Schools. Dinner at a nice Moroccan restaurant.

Day 3: Volubilis - Meknes - Fez

VOLUBILIS, MEKNES – FEZ

A second day here as you focus on one Imperial City. You explore Volubilis, the Roman ruins from 27 BC when it was the capital of MAURETANIA TINGITANA. There is the possibility of staying in Meknes, but most people like just staying in Fes for the night. Dinner at the ryad.

Day 4: Fez to Merzouga

FEZ to MERZOUGA

Travel south travels down to Merzouga in the Sahara Desert. Pass through Ifrane, the Switzerland of Morocco before the cedar forest of Azrou where we look for Barbary Apes- related to the ones in Gibraltar. (Buy peanuts or dates in Fes.)

Travel through the Valley of Ziz with miles of palm trees and high cliffs – Grand Canyon of Morocco – as you approach Erfoud and Rissani, gateways to the desert. Arrive in time for the sunset with bouncing rays off the Sand dunes. Here you sleep in nomad tents under the stars if weather permits or in our Haven La Chance Desert Hotel. All meals included in the desert.

Day 5: Merzouga

MERZOUGA

Here in the sand dunes in Merzouga, the largest in Morocco, enjoy the panoramic scene of black volcanic rock on the hamad or plains, the bright blue sky, the green palm trees, white salt beds, mirages of water, golden shifting sand dunes. Visit Rissani and small villages during the day. A camel excursion overnight with campfire dinner is included. Perhaps share you dinner under the stars with some nomads. Being amongst the vast sanddunes with the sunset and sunrise reflections is a unique experience.

Day 6: Merzouga to Ouarzazate

MERZOUGA to OUARZAZATE

Travel through small villages and oases. Stop at Todra Gorge for lunch where the gorge walls are 2 car- lengths wide. Perhaps some hiking while here. At Ouarzazate, visit the Hollywood of Morocco, and can see many props, like the stadium and lions from GLADIATORS. Visit the Taourirt Kasbah. You stay at a nice “ryad” with dinner included.

Day 7: Ouarzazate to Marrakesh

OUARZAZATE to MARRAKESH via AIT BEN HADDOU KASBAH

The high Atlas Mountains roads are curvy and spectacular on the way to Marrakech. Visit Kasbahs including Ben Ait Haddou. Special ryad with dinner included.

Day 8: Visit of Marrakesh

MARRAKESH

Your second Imperial City of Morocco and The Pearl of the South. Visit the Arabic palaces and old Koran school for a taste of culture and history. Visit the Souk where many guild artisans can be watched as they work. Beautiful tapestry and fabrics and leather. Exotic spices.

The Plaza Djemna el Fna with Berber musicians, snake charmers, fortunetellers, snake charmers, fire-eaters, storytellers is a must. The night brings the FANTASIA spectacular, a special Marrakech dinner with a show of famous Berber horsemen in Battle on Arab horses held under Royal Khaima tents.

Day 9: Marrakesh to Essaouira

MARRAKESH – ESSAOUIRA

Travel 2 hours to Essaouira, a coastal fishing village with a lovely beach. Smaller version than Marrakech with a lot of Portuguese history. Ryad type of hotel. Dinner not included as you have a lot of choices.

Day 10: Essaouira to Casablanca

ESSAOUIRA – CASABLANCA

Travel the coast to Casablanca, the commercial center of Morocco with its buildings of Art Deco and Neo-Moorish styles. Drive around the city and visit the Hassan II Tower and famous Mosque. Hotel here in the center of town is the 4 Star Ramada Inn. Dinner not included.

Day 11: Casablanca to Asilah

CASABLANCA – ASILAH via RABAT

Visit Rabat, present-day capital and your third Imperial City. Travel along the Atlantic Coast and stay in a lovely fortified town in Asilah. Walk on the beach or tour the Kasbah before dining on local seafood. Moderate 3 * Hotel. Dinner not included as there are many seafood restaurants to choose from.

Day 12: Asilah Morocco - Malaga Spain

ASILAH, MOROCCO – MALAGA, SPAIN

Travel towards Tangier, Morocco (45 minutes). Visit Hercules Caves. Pass through customs and take ferry to Spain. Arrangements from Algeciras not included and shall be arranged as per your requirements.

Tour Details

We prefer using ryads that are restored places whenever possible and 4* hotels unless only moderate, clean ones are available. Continental or Buffet Breakfasts and 8 Dinners plus all meals in the Desert are included.

Transportation is a new comfortable 4 x 4 or SUV vehicle with an English-speaking driver who is your overall guide throughout the trip. He meets you at the port and helps you with your return to Spain. There are local official guides in Fes and Marrakech, and our Berber family and friends in the desert. Included are Entrance Fees to Kasbahs, Historic Sites, Museums and Mosques.

Overnight Desert Camel excursion; Dinner/Folklore Shows in Fes and Marrakech. Not included are Ferry tickets crossing to and from Morocco, tips, alcoholic drinks or travel insurance that is required.
